Deep Blue-Green Conference 2026: Exercise for Well-Being in Natural Environments
The Deep Blue-Green Conference 2026, organised within the framework of the Erasmus+ Sport project Deep Blue Green – Exercise for Well-Being, brought together researchers, practitioners, health professionals, sports experts, psychologists, and community organisations from Greece, Italy, Malta, and Portugal to explore innovative approaches to health promotion through physical activity in natural environments. The conference served as a multidisciplinary platform for knowledge exchange, showcasing evidence-based practices that connect blue and green spaces with physical, psychological, and social well-being.
The conference focused on the transformative potential of exercise in nature, ecopsychology, Blue Mind approaches, adventure therapy, inclusive sport, nutrition, mental health, and sustainable lifestyle practices. Presentations highlighted how natural ecosystems—including coastal environments, mountains, parks, rural landscapes, and outdoor community settings—can function as accessible therapeutic spaces for stress reduction, emotional regulation, social inclusion, and health promotion across the lifespan.
A strong emphasis was placed on holistic well-being, integrating physical activity, mental health, nutrition, environmental awareness, and community participation. The conference also presented practical examples of inclusive interventions targeting diverse populations, including older adults, individuals with disabilities, youth, and disadvantaged communities, demonstrating how sport and outdoor activity can reduce barriers to participation and foster resilience, empowerment, and social cohesion.
Through international collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue, the conference reinforced the role of blue-green exercise as an innovative and scalable model for public health promotion, sustainable active living, and enhanced quality of life. The event contributes to the growing European movement advocating for nature-based, inclusive, and community-centred approaches to well-being.
