Deep Blue Green Project Celebrates the European Week of Sport 2025
During the European Week of Sport 2025 (23–30 September), the Deep Blue Green – Exercise for Well-Being Project successfully delivered a series of impactful activities across partner countries, promoting physical activity, mental health, and connection with nature.
Implemented in Greece, Portugal, Malta, and Italy, the project embraced the spirit of the #BeActive campaign by offering inclusive, outdoor, and sea-based experiences designed for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Activities Across Partner Countries
Across the four countries, local organisations coordinated hundreds of participants in diverse activities that combined movement, well-being, and environmental awareness.
In Greece, activities focused on coastal exercise and blue space experiences, including beach fitness sessions, aqua aerobic, and group mindfulness practices by the sea. Participants had the opportunity to reconnect with nature while improving both their physical and mental well-being.
In Portugal, the programme emphasised community engagement and outdoor movement, with walking sessions, group fitness activities, and educational workshops highlighting the benefits of active lifestyles and connection to natural environments.
In Malta, inclusive initiatives brought together participants of different ages and abilities through accessible sports activities, gentle exercise sessions, and well-being workshops. The focus was on participation, enjoyment, and social connection.
In Italy, activities combined outdoor sports and educational seminars, including trekking, functional training, and discussions on the relationship between exercise, mental health, and sustainability.
Promoting Well-Being Through Nature
A key element of the Deep Blue Green project is the integration of the “blue and green” approach—connecting physical activity with natural environments such as the sea, parks, and open landscapes. During the European Week of Sport, this approach was evident across all activities, encouraging participants to experience the positive effects of nature on mood, stress reduction, and overall well-being.
A Shared European Impact
The European Week of Sport 2025 served as a milestone for the Deep Blue Green project, demonstrating the power of collaboration between countries and communities. Through coordinated actions, the project reached a wide audience and strengthened awareness of healthy, active lifestyles.
Participants not only engaged in physical activity but also became part of a broader movement that values well-being, inclusion, and environmental connection.
Looking Forward
Building on the success of the 2025 activities, the Deep Blue Green partnership continues to expand its impact, developing new tools, events, and opportunities for participation across Europe.
The project remains committed to inspiring individuals and communities to move more, connect with nature, and enhance their well-being—together.
